Young Soloist Competition

The Delaware Symphony Orchestra features a competition for young orchestral soloists 21 and under. Each year the competition features one category of orchestral instruments (low strings, violin, piano, winds, percussion).

  • Winners perform their complete concerto as a soloist with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra in a Classical Series concert under the baton of Maestro David Amado.
  • Winners receive a cash prize of $1,000.

The Delaware Symphony Orchestra will feature the winner of the 2005 competition, Curtis Institute of Music student Roman Rabinovich, piano, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra on the Discover Delaware Series on February 3 and 5, 2006.

Rachel Ku, viola, winner of the 2004 competition, performed Hindemith's Der Schwanendreher with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra as part of the Bank One Classical Series on January 13 and 15, 2005.

The 2006 competition category is limited to violin.

Competition Date: Sunday, March 19, 2006 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Competition Location: Amy E. Dupont Music Building in Loudis Recital Hall
